Announce the First Congress of Archaeological Tourism

Rosendo Morales released details of the next Congress.

At a press conference held in the colonial city of Antigua Guatemala, announced the First Congress of Archaeological Tourism "Tourism Strategies and Tools for Economic Development Destination Guatemala", which will be held on 7 February at the Hotel Posada Don Rodrigo, Antigua Guatemala.

Rosendo Morales, event organizer, said one of the main objectives of this conference is to present different alternatives to develop self-sustaining tourism in different archaeological sites and archaeological parks of our country and at the same time, promote the city of Antigua Guatemala as the place of departure to other tourist destinations in Guatemala.

Richard Hansen, Mirador Basin Project Director will participate in the congress with the theme "Reflections on a Model of Tourism, The Mirador Basin Guatemala and Destiny ". Hansen stressed the importance of implementing a self-sustaining model in the Mirador Basin, for the conservation of the site and would benefit to the surrounding communities.

Organizers said the conference will be opened by Rosa Maria Chan, Deputy Minister of Cultural and Natural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, government entity that is supporting the implementation of this congress, as well as several private companies.

Dr.. Tomas Barrientos, Co-Director of the Archaeological Project The Crown, will also be participating with the theme "Archaeological Sites as Tourist attractions Petén: Current Reality and tools for their development ".

Daniel Aquino, Director of the National Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology MUNAE MCD, Also present at the conference, He emphasized the importance of developing self-sustainable tourism models across the country's archaeological sites, not only in the north but also the south coast and the other sites found along the Guatemalan territory.
