Christa Mertins, The Lady of the Dance

The "Bachelor Clemente Marroquín Rojas" the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Embassy of Mexico in Guatemala National Newspaper performed a tribute to the teacher and dancer of the National Ballet of Guatemala Christa Mertins. The ceremony was held at the Mexican Cultural Center "Luis Cardoza y Aragón" Monday 18 March at 19 hours.

The celebration was held in the framework of the International Women's Day and was chaired by the Vice Minister of Culture, Clariza Castellanos and the Director of the National Newspaper, Eugenia María Gordillo.

The dedication of the act was by Maria Eugenia Gordillo, who emphasized the great contribution Mertins Master has given the Guatemalan culture. In his speech he also said she was proud that there are women in Guatemala that day with their efforts make a better country for all. A Mertins Christa was imposed the "Medal of Honor Merit" by Paulina Aguilar Bol, originating in Coban, Alta Verapaz and honored in the year 2013. Clariza Mertins Castellanos handed a commemorative trophy and recognized his career in dance.

Event attendees, mostly women involved in the national music and dance, enjoyed an artistic presentation by the teachers Vinicio Quezada and Alfredo, who performed classic tunes accompanied by piano and violin.

Christa Mertins fue interim director of the Ballet Nacional 1978 and 1979. The artist began his artistic training from childhood. He devoted much of his life to this discipline and contributed greatly to Guatemala was recognized in this branch of art and dance internationally. The National Ballet is an institution that was formed in the year 1948 that is dedicated to promoting academic and classical dance in Spain, since then it is the institution that has trained Guatemalan greats performing arts.
