Starts the III National Meeting of Mayan Women, Garífunas y Xinkas

IIl Encuentro Nacional de Mujeres Mayas_4210The Ministry of Culture and Sports through the Department of Cultural Development and Strengthening of Cultures performed in Coban, Alta Verapaz this meeting as part of the training and educational process with indigenous women to raise awareness of their collective rights and specific.

The main theme of this meeting is "The Role of Women in Today's Society" in which participants around 100 representatives of women's organizations, leaders of organizations, associations ladies, cultural commissions of municipalities and representatives of public institutions of linguistic communities in the country and members making up the National Garifuna and Mayan Women Xinkas.

This activity will last for two days when looking for a space to dialogue to enumerate challenges and propose solutions and strengthen the Council. This will help contribute to their development with cultural identity.

Eustaquia Hernández, Deputy Director of Cultural Diversity, Ministry of Culture and Sports emphasized that "this institution is responsible for promoting the issue of women in the different courts and institutionalize within the Ministry, and working on it because it's commitment to Government and State ".

In opening the meeting was attended by Cleotilde Vasquez, Presidential Secretary for Women and Herlinda Poyón, President of the National Council of Women.
