Mural “The Pillars”, un homenaje a outstanding artists

This day (05 August) was unveiled the artwork "The Pillars", at the National Conservatory of Music "Germán Alcántara", as a tribute to teachers Guatemalan Rafael Álvarez Ovalle and Germán Alcántara and John Aberle, Italian who is in Guatemala. It was made by students of the 5th. Semester of Bachelor of Visual Arts at the University of San Carlos of Guatemala USAC.

The Pillars, was initiated by undergraduates in Visual Arts, in order to bring the knowledge acquired in class to practice, said, Lourdes Gonzalez, student.

The mural was designed and directed by the artist and university professor, Leonel del Cid. It is made of ceramic floor tiles fixed to the wall with silicone and armhole filled with ceramic mortar with approximately durability over 100 years old, whose materials were donated by private companies, as management of the students participating in the work.

We are getting a work of art by young artists and students, that bind specifically to the celebration of 138 anniversary of the National Conservatory of Music. Also, are receiving a tribute to famous Guatemalan, that have given luster to our country, Leandro said Yax, Deputy Culture.

Rafael Alvarez Ovalle (1858-1946), Guatemala was a musician and composer of the music of the national anthem of Guatemala; Germán Alcántara (1863-1910), Guatemala was a musician and composer and director of the National Conservatory of Music 1907 a 1910 y Juan Aberle (1846-1930), Italian composer who settled in Guatemala and El Salvador, as director of orchestras, founder and first director of the National Conservatory in Guatemala.
