Music Festival premiere of activities of the Historic Centre

The premiere of the XVI Festival of the Historic Center of Guatemala City with the participation of the National Symphony Orchestra of Guatemala, a concert in the atrium of the Cathedral of the Metropolitan Tabernacle. The activity carried out on Thursday 6 November opens the festival of the capital city, cultural events in symbolic spaces.

The opening ceremony was chaired by the Minister of Culture and Sports, Dwight Pezzarossi; Mayor of the City of Guatemala, Alvaro Arzu; the director of the Guatemalan Tourism Institute, Pedro Pablo Duchez and the Director of University Extension, University of San Carlos of Guatemala, Alvaro Cheek.

The welcoming remarks were made by the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Festival, Ricardo Rodriguez. Subsequently, the ribbon cutting was done by representatives of the institutions involved in implementation.

The Orchestra performed works of world culture as the overture to The Marriage of Figaro, The Nutcracker Suite and selections from the operas of Richard Wagner's Nuremberg. Also Guatemalan pieces like Moon and The Railway Xelajú Altos were interpreted.

The Festival will conclude on 15 November a marimba ensemble that will take place at Centennial Park. Dance activities will be conducted, theater, music, visual arts, Exhibition of Plastic Arts, inter. The calendar of events can be downloaded at www.mcd.gob.gt and festivaldelcentrohistorico.com
