Popol Uncle: between memory and creativity

Last Thursday 27 November, National Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, inaugurated the exhibition "Popol Vuh: between Memory and Creativity ", which is now open to the public on the premises of MUNAE.

The Popol Vuh sacred to the Maya book and important example of pre-Hispanic literature, tells the history of the world since the creation of the same from the perspective of the Maya worldview.

The exhibition consists of a series of 22 artist artwork Mexican nationality Jesus Mora, representing the universal value of the Popol Vuh, also has a selection of cultural property from the National Collection of Guatemala.

Daniel Aquino Museum Director was responsible for opening the exhibition and make an explanatory tour with event guests. Aquino thanked the institutions and individuals who contributed to make the installation of the exhibition and said that thanks to the agreement of cultural exchange that has the MUNAE with the National Council for Culture and Arts of Mexico, was possible to include illustrations of Jesus Mora.

During the opening ceremony was presented the TV documentary produced by Maya and the Academy of Mayan Languages ​​of Guatemala, coordinated by the Graduate researcher Olga Xicará the General Directorate of Cultural and Natural Heritage, where the values ​​of this literary work are analyzed. Olga regard Xicará said the aim of making this production, is to convey the great value of this literary work to new generations, for all the knowledge it contains the same endures through time.

This event was held in collaboration with the Directorate General of Cultural and Natural Heritage, the National Council for Culture and Arts of Mexico and Maya TV, with the motive to commemorate the declaration of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Nation, that was granted to the Popol Vuh in 2012, for its historical value, cultural, philosophical and spiritual.

The exhibition is temporary and is in the lounge Dora Gonzalez War MUNAE, in the schedule to the public on Tuesdays to Fridays from 9:00 a 16:00 hours, Saturday and Sunday 9:00 a 12:00 and 13:30: a 16:00 hours.
