Recognition, justice and development of African Descent

Millions of people are still victims of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance in the world for which the United Nations by Resolution 64/460 launched an informal preparatory process and consultative leading to the proclamation of the International Decade for People of African Descent.

The International Decade of African Descent begin 1 January 2015 and end on 31 December 2024 with the theme "African Descent: recognition, justice and development ".

Therefore the Ministry of Culture and Sports through the Department of Cultural Strengthening and Development of Cultures Interintitucional participates in the committee preparing the Action Plan and the government decree to declare the International Decade for People of African Descent, focused on achieving the goals of the International Undertaking.

As part of the activities of the working group held an academic forum to expand knowledge of this subject to the members of the commission, the topics were: Conceptualization and ethnohistory of the Garifuna people and Afro-descendants given by Dr. Gudberto leiva, The presence of the Garifuna and Afro-descendant People in Central America and Guatemala spoken by BA Benneditha Cantanhede e Silva and Identity of the Garifuna people, Identity of African descent, national and international legal framework by Dr. Alfonso Arrivillaga.
