Rinde Homenaje a Jacobo Arbenz Guzmán

At the National Museum of History of the Ministry of Culture and Sports-MCD- performed a ceremony commemorating the celebration of "History Day", which was dedicated to the memory of Colonel Jacobo Arbenz Guzmán, president of Guatemala to 1951 a 1954.

The welcoming remarks were made by Miguel Alvarez, Director of the National History Museum, which indicated that the 16 October marks the Day of History. He also said that being 2013 the centenary year of the birth of Jacobo Arbenz, was decided to pay tribute to this character so important and renowned in the history of our country.

The memorial was unveiled bust of Jacobo Arbenz, prepared by the artist Leopoldo Barrientos, who said it is a privilege to deliver this work to the Museum, and that Colonel Arbenz was a great leader for our country.

Barrientos also donated a replica of the sculpture on a smaller scale to Dr. Armando Ponciano, Arbenz family friend, thanked for this token of appreciation and admiration.

Representing the Birth Centenary Commission of Colonel Jacobo Arbenz Guzmán, Mobile Antonio addressed the attendees and expressed the need that there are new generations of Guatemalans know the true history of our country, since it is part of our culture. The memory of Jacobo Arbenz as leaders should not be forgotten, expressed.

People who attended the evening were also able to watch the screening of a documentary produced for the occasion, with images provided by the National Film and interviews with people who lived during the time when Arbenz was president.
