San Marcos is in the 2013 the epicenter of culture

The next 24 July will be inaugurated in San Marcos, workshops Festival of Cultures, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Sports and supported by the Organization of American States OEI, which aims to create and recreate to the population affected by the recent earthquake in late 2012.

The Festival will begin with training and workshops for children and adults in the municipalities most affected by the earthquake: San Antonio Sacatepéquez, Esquipulas Palo Gordo and San Pedro Sacatepequez, culminating in the departmental capital of San Marcos, in November 2013. There will be arts, visual arts, dance, marimba, music, theater, storytelling techniques and conferences.

The effort to continue performing culture festivals, Sports and Recreation in Guatemala, arises from the need to create spaces that encourage and enable dialogue between different artistic and cultural, with the participation of various public, said the executive committee organizing the Festival.

Hence, for the Ministry is important to institutionalize the Festival of Cultures, taking advantage of the artistic potential that is in all regions of the country and thus benefit the Guatemalan population, as it is intended to rotate the venues in the departments of the republic, conducting these festivals nationwide.

The initiative to create a Cultural Festival in conjunction with the four DGs: Sport, Art, Culture and Heritage, reflections emerged during the strategic planning 2013-2016 the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
