Bridging Cultural Ties

Guatemalans will witness the Francophonie Week will be held in our country, which has as main objective to present the cultures of French-speaking countries, who was born in the empires of Egypt, Canada, France, Morocco, Belgium and Switzerland.

The 20 March was the official international celebration that opened the door to the opening week at the Chamber Theatre "Hugo Carrillo" Centro Cultural Miguel Angel Asturias and gave an Egyptian dance show, ranging from traditional to modern.

The International Organization of la Francophonie (OIF) is responsible each year to commemorate this date. In the edition 2014 a rally will be held in the city, where history and culture will be found.


The word "Francophonie" was born in 1880 the geographer Onésime Reclus to describe the linguistic and cultural community of the French colonial empire.

This celebration will consist of arts and cultural activities such as concerts, exhibitions and theatrical performances, inter, to encourage the connection between francophone countries, as well as the relationship with other cultures.
