Sign Agreement to protect and preserve the Cultural and Natural Heritage of the Nation

The Vice Ministry of Cultural and Natural Heritage and The Center for Conservation Studies-CECON- University of San Carlos of Guatemala-USAC-, signed today a cooperation agreement, with the aim of unifying efforts to protect and preserve the Cultural and Natural Heritage of the Nation.

CONVENIO CECON_0865This Convention seeks to develop a process of inter-agency technical strengthening both instances, based on experience, skills and capacities installed, through the joint efforts, through cooperation programs, guiding dialogue and sharing of resources and information.

CECON's mission is to develop models of conservation of protected areas and biodiversity-based research, in situ conservation programs and partnerships with other university research centers and related institutions that promote environmental sustainability, social and economic, conservation of natural heritage, benefit of Guatemalan society.

From this firm, will be developing joint projects, managing funds and establishing partnerships to address illegal and offenses against the property constituting the Cultural and Natural Heritage of the Nation, as indicated by the Convention.

The agreement was given by Rosa Maria Chan, Deputy Minister of Cultural and Natural Heritage and Oscar Manuel Pinto Cóbar, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the USAC, institution responsible for the management and administration of the protected area system of the University of San Carlos, in activity in the National Palace of Culture.

Hereafter, both institutions are bringing together to strengthen and implement programs, projects, activities and actions to benefit the conservation and protection of the assets constituting the Cultural and Natural Heritage of the Nation.

Also, has the goal of supporting the conservation and protection of archaeological sites and parks located within protected areas administered by the CECON, biotopes as Cerro Cahuí, The San Miguel Palotada among others.

Finally, is to establish together the priorities of scientific research, monitoring and evaluation for the conservation and sustainable use of Biodiversity and Cultural Heritage.
