Keep a great architectural beauty and is located opposite the ruins of the Cathedral , a few meters from Central Park on the 5th. No.5 East Street in the building that housed the University of San Carlos de Borromeo.

• History of the Museum:

The building now occupied by the Museo de Arte Colonial, hosted the University of San Carlos of Guatemala 1768 a 1777. It is one of the most harmonious buildings of the city, constructed only once and at a time when it had reached its "maturity" local Baroque architecture. It various architectural features combine Santiago at that time: use of masonry and stucco decoration, rusticated archways and pillars.

The building has a central courtyard, around which four runners university classrooms were built. The Museum of Colonial Art was founded in 1936 by the Board of Friends of Antigua Guatemala.

• Exhibitions:

The Museum of Colonial Art has a permanent exhibition of paintings, sculpture and furniture from the colonial era. Gather the paintings of Guatemalan artists of the seventeenth century, as Thomas Merlo, inter alia.
