National Museum of Natural History

Guatemala City, August 2008/Fundado the 4 July 1950 under the name of National Museum of Natural History, by Professor Jorge A. Ibarra, who was its first director, holding the position until the year 1996 and because of his career as a naturalist and the magnificent work of the Museum, by Ministerial Agreement 10-88 the 14 March 1988, was renamed the National Museum of Natural History "Jorge A. Ibarra ". The facilities currently occupied by the Museum were inaugurated 19 September 1986.

One of its main objectives is to collect, study, preserve and display representative samples of biodiversity and other natural resources of Guatemala. His subject is history and natural sciences. Within their collection are dissected specimens of butterflies, beetles and other insects, besides herbal, poultry, mammals and minerals Guatemala.
