A demonstration of the Guatemalan Handicrafts Month

The month of October is "Month of Guatemalan Handicrafts", according to the Ministerial Decision No.. 287-2008, issued by the Ministry of Culture and Sports.

To commemorate the provisions of this Agreement, day 28 this month it opened in the corridors of the Hall "Rigoberta Menchú" the Directorate General of Cultural and Natural Heritage, the "Demonstration and Crafts Expoventa". This activity is organized by the Technical Department of Intangible Heritage through Subcentro Craft Unit, two entities belonging to the DGPCYN.

Representatives indicated Crafts Unit, that the primary purpose of the activity is to provide a small sample of the wide range of handicrafts that are produced and originating in Guatemala.

We, the "culture makers" involved in this, exhibition come from different regions of our country, all are recorded in the list of artisans who owns the Technical Department of Intangible Heritage and their products represent the region which are coming.

This colorful display of talent mixed with the knowledge and traditions that prevail to this day, can be found woven and embroidered handmade originating from Zacapa, Solola, San Antonio Aguas Calientes town department Sacatepéquez, for example.

Jewellery made with different materials, everyday items and toys made from recycled materials and traditional fabrics, the famous "Ponchos Momostenango" made handcrafted wool, ceramic Chinautla, are some of the elements of the craft shows to name a few. They could not miss the sweets of Antigua Guatemala and chocolate San Juan del Obispo, Special for those who enjoy the flavors of our cuisine.

This "expo-sale" is an invitation to Guatemalan society in general, to know and appreciate these expressions inherited from generation to generation by producers, Admission is free and the hours are from 9:00 a 16:00 and will be open until 31 October.
