Start training for protection of Cultural Heritage of Guatemala

At the National Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Ministry of Culture and Sports initiated the training to strengthen people working in institutions related to the cultural heritage of the nation. The first meeting on Monday 20 June was attended by the Deputy Minister Max Araujo, representing the Minister for Culture and Sports, José Luis Chea Urruela.

The training session, called "Culture can not wait", It was directed to 20 participants from various locations in Guatemala. For its development it has the support of organizations like the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO), the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED) y el Centro Internacional de Estudios para la Conservación y la Restauración de Bienes Culturales (ICCROM).

For its development takes into account the risks to which it is subjected Cultural Heritage of Nations. These include armed conflicts, natural agents and human intervention in various manifestations. The aim is to strengthen the protection in museums, archaeological sites, historical, libraries, churches and houses of culture.

The training will be conducted during June and July in Guatemala City, Quetzaltenango, Alta Verapaz and Peten. The proposal for this activity is performed by the engineer Samuel Franco, research center representative House K'ojom.
