Women weavers receive awards

The work of women weavers in the province was recognized in the threads that tell stories and traditions contest, organized by state institutions and the private sector, in Xelajú.

Clariza Castellanos, director of social communication from the Ministry of Culture and Sports, said it is the fourth award, in which representatives from all departments, competition with a hundred women who exhibited equal amount of blouses.

He explained that it takes into account how they embody the traditions and new ideas through the tissues, in order to promote and strengthen the country's customs, with the delivery of, among other awards, Televisions, sewing machines and ovens.

Cecilia Diaz, director of the Museo Ixchel, said that the initiative came from the company Anchor, in order to further promote the country's culture through motivation in developing blouses.

"It should be noted the participation of young knitters that implement latest techniques and telling stories that are part of humanity", Diaz stressed.

Luz Marina Osorio, manager Anchor, welcomed the participation of both the weavers and the institutions that supported the completion of the competition, it took several months for your organization, selection and award.

In the category knitting and embroidery, the first place was awarded to Maria Lucia Pocon, who represents San Raymundo, Guatemala; the second was for Maribel Granados, San Juan Sacatepequez, Guatemala, and third, Toribia for Morales, San Miguel Chicaj, Baja Verapaz.

In the category of innovation and creativity, the first place winner was Marta Estepan, San Juan Comalapa, Chimaltenango; second, Lidia de Leon, Conception Chiquirichapa, Quetzaltenango, and the third was shared by Eleuteria Relax Paxtor, Quetzaltenango, The Nohemí García, Totonicapan.
