Gobierno de la República nombra Patrimonio Cultural de la Nación la Romería a Esquipulas

The atrium of the Basilica of Esquipulas hosted the formal ceremony in which the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Nation ordered the Pilgrimage to Esquipulas, con la presencia del Vicepresidente de la República Juan Alberto Fuentes Soria, Government officials, local and ecclesiastical autoridaded.

The activity held on Saturday 9 January was conducted with the aim of formalizing the decree of the Ministerial Agreement 1199-2015 Ministry of Culture and Sports declaring the distinction to the historical elements, cultural, religious and social part of the pilgrimage to Esquipulas. The agreement is signed by the Minister of Culture and Sports, Ana María Rodas.

The Vice President Juan Alfonso Fuentes presented the parchment embodying the Declaration, the mayor of Esquipulas Carlos Lapola. The vicemandatario expressed his devotion to the Black Christ of Esquipulas.

The activity was attended by the Deputy Minister of Cultural and Natural Heritage on behalf of the Minister Ana María Rodas. En su participación indicó que la realización de este acto fomenta la identidad de los guatemaltecos y es importante para consolidar a la cultura como motor del desarrollo. Asistió el Director de Patrimonio Cultural y Natural Mario Argueta quien hizo lectura del Acuerdo Ministerial.

The event ended with the interpretation of the Victoria Morales girl with the subject “Seeking Peace” and Elizabeth of Guatemala with The Miraculous Lord of Esquipulas Jose Ernesto Monzon.
