Ministry of Culture and Sports commemorates 115 birthday of Miguel Angel Asturias

On Friday morning 17 October began the celebrations commemorating the birth of Miguel Angel Asturias, in a formal ceremony held at the Cultural Center that bears his name. From the 10 am familiar quote from writer gave, headed by his grandson Sandino Asturias, together with the Minister of Culture and Sports, Dwight Pezzarossi, and collaborators from the National Theatre and literary admirers.

The official presided activity, that first part was to make wreaths at the monument of Asturias is located in the main square of Theatre, in front of the Great Hall. This sculpture is the work of Guatemalan artist Manolo Gallardo.

Speaking, Pezzarossi said "pay tribute as today, is to honor his memory. The figure of Asturias is always in the mind of Guatemalans through their literary works ". The celebration continued in the gallery Efraín Recinos, where the official with the descendants of Asturias unveiled an oil portrait, work Maugdo Vásquez. In this space photographs of the writer's life are exhibited.

Commemorative activities will continue on Sunday 19 at the monument located on Avenida Reforma and 14 street, between zones 9 and 10. This sculpture was made by Max Leiva. Miguel Angel Asturias was born 19 October 1899 in Guatemala City and was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1967.
